New from Atomic for this season, is the high performance and uber lightweight Hawx Ultra 100 Boot. This boot has a moderate 100 flex, a 98mm last and is intended for upper intermediate to expert skiers. What sets this boot apart from the competition is that 1. The Progressive Shell is insanely light for a boot of this caliber, in fact, you’ll be surprised how light it actually is (about 25% lighter than other alpine boots to be exact). 2. It features Atomic’s Memory Fit Technology, where both the liner AND the shell are heat moldable for a precise and comfortable fit. We recommend the Ultra 100 for a wide range of abilities from intermediate to expert skiers looking for boot with an even blend of performance and comfort.
98mm last: Forefoot width of 98mm for racing performance, not as concerned about comfort, although modern boots do a great job of keeping their performance boots quite comfortable.
Target Skier: Advanced to Expert: These boots are stiff enough and performance oriented enough, that we would recommend them to advanced skiers who will be aggressively skiing the whole mountain. Beginners should look elsewhere!
100 Flex Rating: This boot is pretty stiff, but not insanely stiff. A boot of this level is pretty good for upper-intermediate to expert level weekend warrior that is looking for something stiff enough to provide high-end response, while being wearable for an entire day of skiing.
Memory Fit Shell And Liner: This boot can be fully personalized at using Atomic’s Memory Fit System to mold the shell, cuff and liner in just minutes. If you are looking for a custom fit, you couldn’t ask for more than this.
Sole Flex : The Hawx flex area has moved from the side of the shell to the sole of the boot. This are provides a more natural bending line, promoting better balance, better feel underfoot and more control.
Tongue Pull: A loop of fabric at the top of the tongue helps in putting on and removing the boots. Pull it forward and to the side and your foot should slide right in.
40mm strap: Super wide strap found on high performance boots. The extra width spreads out the force while skiing and reduces the pressure point on the upper shin.
Replaceable Toe and Heel Pads: This is a must-have for skiers that don’t live in ski in/ski out condos. When your ski tech tells you that you have to buy new boots because the soles are worn down too much, just laugh at him and tell him to order you a new set of sole plates.
Edge 7000 Buckles: The Edge 7000 buckles are highly durable yet lightweight curved buckles with wide levers for easier opening and closing of the buckles. Each of these buckles is micro-adjustable, and the ladder of the top buckle adjusts to different sizes on the fly, without needing to remove the rivet.
Progressive Shell Technology: A revolutionary shell construction that reduces weight by 25% for increased agility and snow feel while reinforcing key zones for stability and power transmission.
Energy Backbone: This boot features a reinforced, asymmetric backbone that provides extra strength and edge grip for powerful skiing.
3M Thinsulate Insulation: A lightweight, completely re-engineered liner with 3M Thinsulate Insulation keeps feet warm and responsive even in extremely cold and damp conditions. Thinsulate Platinum surrounds the whole foot while standard Thinsulate is placed in the toe box only.
